Soho's finest: Little Italy
Once you've discovered this little gem in Soho...
you'll definitely want to go back.
Little Italy, situated on Soho's Frith Street, is both a restaurant
and a bar. The split-level restaurant at the back serves authentic
Italian cuisine in a friendly, relaxed and vibrant environment.
However, Little Italy's buzzing bar attracts many different types
of people throughout the evening and well into the morning. There's
no need to get dressed up, although many people do. Jeans and t-shirt
will be fine.
Little Italy's bar area is very narrow
and it gets extremely busy during Friday and Saturday night. If
you don't mind people rubbing themselves against you as they
pass, you should fit right in!
The drinks at the bar are a little expensive but the atmosphere
and the friendly people make up for it. The place gets really busy
on a Friday and Saturday night. So if you intend to go to Little
Italy for a drink during the weekend... be aware. You won't
have much room to look cool or adopt a 'model' pose.
With the profusion of happy people politely pushing their way to
the restaurant and toilets, which are to the rear, it's not
unusual to find yourself feeling squashed and (unintentionally)
rubbing-up against your friend, trying to look natural as you drink
a cocktail through your nostrils.
But hey... it's Soho. You should expect this type
of thing. And besides, it adds to the charm and friendliness of
the place.
At around 11pm Little Italy explodes as drinkers spill into the
restaurant area. The tables and chairs are rearranged to make way
for those partygoers who have been itching to break free from the
crowds and bust a few moves on the dance floor. It's amazing.
Perfect for meeting new people and having a damn good time. Even
before the tables are cleared, some drunken diners have a burst
of excitement and decide to treat everyone to their tabletop rendition
of 'Sex Bomb' (Tom
Jones).
Little Italy's late licence stretches to 4am, when many people
filter onto Frith Street to enjoy a Pannini and Latte from Cafe
Italia - the all-night Italian cafe next door to Little Italy. Cafe
Italia is quite expensive but provides a fantastic environment for
chatting to newly found friends or having a tete-a-tete.
Ben and I highly recommend Little Italy. It's one
of the best bars in Soho, we go there as often as we can. So if
you see us, say "hello".
