FEATURES/FASHION
Phlem is a directional modern culture brand for young, freethinking individuals.
In
the heart of Bristol (UK) two individuals work day and night to
fulfil the world's demand for funky, artistic and affordable clothing.
Collectively known as 'Phlem' these people create unique clothes
for young, stylish individuals. Phlem's continually expanding collection
is available to buy from a market stall in Bristol and from their
very own website - www.phlem.org.uk.
Nowadays many people want to forget the mishmash, experimental
fashion of the 80's - with it's polka-dot skirts, off-the-shoulder
Mickey Mouse t-shirts, massive earrings and big outrageous hair.
However, Phlem embrace all of this... it ignites their imagination!
They draw inspiration from 80's fashion and work hard to redefine
it for today's youth.
Phlem is the fusion of two creative, over-active minds:
Emma - a 27-year-old Fashion
Designer, Bang DJ/club night promoter, opinionated fanzine writer,
80's lover and New-Wave Punk girl.
Phil - a 27-year-old Website
Designer, Bang DJ/club night promoter, Vermont band member, 60's
lover and Garage rock boy.
The focus of Phlem's clothing designs has been influenced largely
by Punk, 80's trash, Mod, British and Japanese street style, New-Wave,
Electro and everything 60's. The clothes offer absolute freedom
of expression and each garment has been made to be as individual
as you are.
GlamPop is 100% supportive of designers
like Phlem. These inventive people are drawing inspiration from
the 60's and 80's, and whipping-up a collection of totally unique
clothing designs. Very few alternative labels
offer expressive one-of-a-kind styles at such fantastically low
prices - I don't know how they do it!
As if they weren't busy enough creating funky clothes, the peeps
from Phlem also organise, promote and DJ a special club night called
'Bang' at The Hatchet on Frogmore Street in Bristol. This is the
ideal venue for creative individuals to meet-up (in their Phlem
Glam-rags!) and have a good time. On the decks, the Phlem duo play
some crazy tunes from a mixed bag of music genres, including: alternative
60's, Garage rock, Punk, New-Wave and Underground indie.
Not only are Phlem clothes and accessories available to buy from the
website - www.phlem.org.uk
- they are also for sale on the Phlem stall every Friday at St Nicholas
Market, on Corn Street in Bristol. The range currently includes
printed slash t-shirts, polka-dot Ra-Ra skirts and crazy t-shirt
dresses for the girls, and an eclectic selection of printed t-shirts
and customised shirts for the boys.
Phlem offers a fantastic collection of directional clothing.
Some of the garments are so creative and vocal, they should be exhibited
at the Tate!
