As with many other countries, it is now an offence in the UK to discard your cigarette butt onto the streets of our cities, towns and villages. No more stamping-out your fag butt on the train station platform, dropping smouldering butts outside your office block or adding to the collection of butt litter at the bus stop. Although, if you do continue to drop your butts, a £50 fine could be coming your way!

The littering fine has been introduced because the UK government want smokers to quit dropping their butts. However, the government seem to have given the puffing public no alternative – how else can you discard a cigarette butt without causing a bin fire? It’s illegal to drop a cigarette butt.

So what should smokers do?
