The 80’s are back; it’s official. We always say there’s a fashion trend we won’t go along with but we always do. Gladiator sandals anyone? But once we see them on others we realise mmm.. it’s not so bad, and then before you know it out comes the credit card.
Well fashion goes round in circles we’ve established that and while we may not have expected it with the 80’s you can pretty much guarantee that elements of the 60’s and 70’s will come back time and time again. Twiggy, Abba – they were fun fashions and shouldn’t ever disappear, and now the 80’s. Most people who lived through it will say ‘never again’ but just you wait. We’ll have you back in bat wing coats before you know it. Michael Jackson and Madonna pulled it off. Why can’t we?
One things for certain the fashions from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s were so diverse and suited many a different shape. If you could match your body type to a past era and stick with it regardless of current trends you no doubt would look fab. Boyish figure? – stick with the a-line and stick thin mod era. Tall? What about those fab long hippy dresses of the 70’s. We don’t all need to follow trends of today. Why not look to the past rather than look to Primark’s current stock? Who wants to go out looking like everyone else that was shopping in River Island that day anyway?
I say vintage and retro is the way forward, no more looking like everyone else and next time someone says ‘where did you get that from?’ You can avoid mumbling Primark and say proudly ‘This? It’s vintage darling’.
